Comments

After helping lead the Northeastern men's track and field team to the 2016 CAA Championship, freshman middle distance runner Marc Reinas was named the conference Rookie of the Year on Monday. In addition, director Cathrine Erickson was named the CAA Coach of the Year for the second straight season, according to a vote conducted by the league's head coaches. Rienas is the first Husky to win the CAA's top freshman honor since 2011. In his first CAA Championship, the New Jersey native played a hand in helping NU win its second straight team title. He won gold in the 800m race with a season-best time of 1:52.51 and also was a part of the Huskies' winning 4x400-meter relay team that clocked a time of 3:21.42. Reinas was also a gold medalist at the New England Championships as part of the 4x4000-meter team, a mark that qualified the group for the IC4A Championships. Under the direction of Erickson, NU once again captured the men's track and field team title in 2016. The Huskies tallied 307 total points and clinched the trophy on the final day of the championship with five individual victories and two relay wins. Erickson is the first back-to-back winner of the league's Coach of the Year honor since 2011-12. Erickson led the Huskies to 136 personal bests, 149 New England qualifying marks, 83 IC4A qualifying marks, 25 top-ten marks in program history and two new school records in addition to the program's first outdoor New England Championship since 2002. In addition to Reinas and Erickson, a pair of Huskies earned CAA All-Academic status thanks to their work in the classroom. Christopher Reider, a senior who earned his doctorate in pharmacy with a 4.00 grade point average, and Brooke Wojeski, a sophomore who finished both semesters with a perfect 4.00 GPA.
